Colts shut down Luck, no timetable

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Andrew Luck has stopped throwing passes for now, and it's not yet clear when he'll resume.

On Wednesday, Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard said the team has instructed the star quarterback to take a break from throwing after developing soreness in his surgically repaired throwing shoulder.

"The doctors and the trainers have decided - they've given him a cortisone shot to kind of take away some of that inflammation that's been happening," Ballard said. "In terms of the rehab, it's been going well."

Winston limited, Bucs prep Fitzpatrick

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) The Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren't saying much about injured quarterback Jameis Winston's status for Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills.

As expected, the third-year pro did not throw in practice Wednesday because of a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder.

Seahawks expected to put DE Avril on IR

RENTON, Wash. (AP) Defensive end Cliff Avril is expected to be placed on injured reserve by the Seattle Seahawks as he continues to deal with a neck injury.

Avril was injured three weeks ago in a game against the Indianapolis Colts. While chasing down Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett, the back of Brissett's foot caught Avril in the chin as he lunged to make the tackle. Avril was seen shaking his arms and flexing his hands after the impact.

Cowboys, AT&T Stadium to host 2018 draft

NEW YORK (AP) The NFL draft is headed for Dallas.

Well, for AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which the Cowboys call home. It's the first time the draft will happen in an NFL stadium.

Fournette misses practice due to ankle

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette sat out practice Wednesday while recovering from a sprained right ankle.

The rookie rolled his ankle late in Sunday's 27-17 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Coach Doug Marrone says Fournette was ready to re-enter the game after getting his ankle evaluated on the sideline, but adds that "there's a lot of adrenaline that goes into that."

Giants' Rodgers-Cromartie accepts blame

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) A seemingly happy Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has returned to the New York Giants and is accepting the blame for a blowup with coach Ben McAdoo that led to a one-game suspension.

The cornerback practiced with the team on Wednesday for the first time since being suspended indefinitely a week ago after leaving the team headquarters before practice. The Giants reinstated the 10-year veteran Tuesday after he spoke with McAdoo.

Eagles DE Long donating season salary

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Chris Long is donating the rest of his year's salary to increase educational equality.

The Philadelphia Eagles' defensive end already gave up his first six game checks to provide two scholarships for students in Charlottesville, Virginia. Now, he's using the next 10 to launch the Pledge 10 for Tomorrow campaign.

LB Ray, TE Butt practice for Broncos

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) Amid all the handwringing over their meltdown against the New York Giants, the Denver Broncos got a booster shot Wednesday when outside linebacker Shane Ray and rookie tight end Jake Butt participated in practice.

It was Ray's first practice since he broke his left wrist in late July, and Butt's first chance to take snaps with the starters since being drafted in April while recovering from knee surgery.

Trump: NFL disrespecting America

WASHINGTON (AP) President Donald Trump is again criticizing the NFL over players kneeling during the national anthem.

Trump said on Twitter early Wednesday that the "NFL has decided that it will not force players to stand for the playing of our National Anthem."
